Robot runtime is only one part of battery sizing

AGV and AMR batteries must support acceleration peaks, navigation electronics, auxiliary loads, charge strategy and the available mechanical envelope.

Key design questions

  • What are the continuous and short-duration peak currents?
  • Does the drive return regenerative current to the battery?
  • Will the robot opportunity-charge or complete full cycles?
  • Is simultaneous charge and discharge required?
  • What CAN or RS485 messages must be exchanged?

The correct pack is confirmed after the load profile, charger, protocol document, dimensions, mass and environmental conditions are reviewed together.
