Lead-Acid to LiFePO4 Conversion Checklist

A system-level checklist for evaluating lithium replacement batteries without assuming drop-in compatibility.

Do not confirm a replacement from voltage alone

A lead-acid bank and a LiFePO4 pack can use similar nominal voltage while having different charge limits, protection behavior and current capability.

Check before conversion

  1. Record the full voltage range of the existing equipment
  2. Confirm charger, alternator, controller or inverter settings
  3. Measure continuous, peak and regenerative current
  4. Verify tray size, terminals, cables, fuse and mounting
  5. Review temperature and low-temperature charging
  6. Confirm communication, display and certification needs

Only after these checks can the battery manufacturer determine whether a standard case works or a custom configuration is required.
