Lead-Acid to LiFePO4 Conversion Checklist
A system-level checklist for evaluating lithium replacement batteries without assuming drop-in compatibility.
Published 2026-08-26Do not confirm a replacement from voltage alone
A lead-acid bank and a LiFePO4 pack can use similar nominal voltage while having different charge limits, protection behavior and current capability.
Check before conversion
- Record the full voltage range of the existing equipment
- Confirm charger, alternator, controller or inverter settings
- Measure continuous, peak and regenerative current
- Verify tray size, terminals, cables, fuse and mounting
- Review temperature and low-temperature charging
- Confirm communication, display and certification needs
Only after these checks can the battery manufacturer determine whether a standard case works or a custom configuration is required.
